Ask Dr Brownlie

Why Infections are a Major Concern?

Vulnerability: As we get older our immune systems get weakened and along with a complex medical history.

Antimicrobial Resistance (AMR): High rates of antibiotic use in aged care facilities can lead to the spread of resistant and harder-to-treat bacteria.

Rapid Transmission: Shared spaces, communal activities and movement around other areas can cause outbreaks of gastroenteritis and respiratory diseases to spread quickly.

Question: How can I help from preventing this to happen?

Answer:

Must always keep my hands clean

Wear a mask or stay in your room away from other people.

Make sure your immunizations are up to date for influenza, COVID-19, and pneumococcal disease.

Important for families and staff to notice these signs.
